What is Emotional Freedom Technique?
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a relatively new technique, developed in the 1990s by an American called Gary Craig. It has its roots in Eastern medicine, having been developed from acupuncture. EFT works on the Eastern theory that the body has energy lines called meridians running through it. The belief is that ill health occurs when these meridians become blocked or unbalanced. The main cause of this disharmony is stress & / or the emotional stress attached to certain memories. People consist of mind, body & spirit. The three cannot be separated, so where there is imbalance in one, there will be imbalance in the other two. EFT works by tuning into the emotional aspect of a problem & tapping on various acupuncture points. In so doing, balance & harmony are restored to the meridians thus enabling the body to heal any physical / emotional traumas. It is a quick & efficient solution to problems that may be long standing & where other remedies have failed. It is also extremely empowering as it can easily be taught to clients so they can do it quickly & easily at home. It also means that when successful, it can effectively free the client from a restrictive lifestyle & thereby improve quality of life. It has been shown to be highly effective at helping a huge variety of problems, from fears & phobias, habit breaking, improving performance, depression, PTSD, anger management, the list is endless! Some clients can be helped in one session, whilst others may need more. This all depends on the depth of the problem.
Who Can Benefit?
Anyone can benefit from this wonderful therapy. It is great for helping any problems with a negative emotion attached & is especially useful therapy to use where others have failed. However, in order for it to be fully effective, the client must be willing to change their thought patterns.
How Will It Help Me?
It works by removing or neutralising the negative emotions attached to a certain event. By doing this it helps you to realise that the negative feelings you have in relation to this event no longer serve you & that it is possible to move forward in life without them. This is incredibly liberating & empowering as many people have lost their quality of life as a result of things like phobias & anxiety. It can help people manage anger better as a lot of anger can be fear based. This in turn can help improve current relationships or help form more solid relationships.
What Happens During A Treatment?
To begin with Helen will chat to you about what the main problem is & how you feel it all started. She will then ask you to rate the feeling on a scale of 0-10 & then will formulate a statement with you that you need to repeat during the session. Whilst you are repeating this statement, Helen will tap a point on your hand as well as various other points on your face, arm & hand. You will then need to perform a couple of eye movements & re-rate your feelings on the scale of 0-10. The aim of EFT is to get your score to a 3 as this is deemed to be a normal & manageable score on the scale. At this point you may still have a dislike for, let’s say, spiders (if they are your issue) but that dislike will no longer run your life. If the problem is very deep rooted it may be that one session is not enough to reduce your score down to a 3, so a further session will be booked. Helen will also be able to show you self help techniques that you can repeat on yourself at home.
How Will I Feel During & After Treatment?
You will probably begin the session with mixed feelings. Fear, feeling silly, unsure, nervous, apprehensive, excited. All of these feelings are perfectly normal. What normally happens is that to begin with, the client repeats the statement quietly & nervously. As the session progresses, the voice gets stronger, more confident & more positive. By the end of the session the client feels much happier, stronger, confident & as though a weight has been lifted from their shoulders. It can be highly liberating for some as their problems have become quite life limiting.
How Much Does It Cost?
A session costs £40 & lasts up to an hour
